Simon Fraser University – What Does The Future Need?
OFFICIAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
 
The following are the Official Rules and Regulations of the Simon Fraser University “What Does The Future Need” Contest. This Contest is void, in whole or part, where prohibited by law and is subject to all Federal, Provincial and Municipal Laws and Regulations. Subject to the applicable laws, these Rules govern all aspects of the Contest, and are binding upon all participants. In the event of any inconsistency between the Rules and the conditions and explanations appearing on any other documents, these Rules shall take precedence.
 
1. ELIGIBILITY
The Contest is open to all individuals pursuing or planning to pursue, a post-secondary education in Canada. Void where prohibited or restricted by law. Employees of Simon Fraser University Enrollment Services, KARO, Invoke Designs, together with members of their immediate families are ineligible to participate in the Contest or win any Contest prize.

2. CONTEST PERIOD
The Contest commences on Monday September 28, 2009, and closes at 11:59 P.M. on Friday, April 30, 2010 (the "Contest Period" - based on each province's applicable time zone).

3. HOW TO ENTER
To enter the Contest, go to www.sfu.ca/solutions (contest website) during the Contest period outlined above, and select “Register” to create an account. Once you have created an account, click on the Step 1 button to explore SFU programs, and get an idea of which two or three programs, or areas of study, you will weave in to your solution to the question “What does the future need”. Once you have explored the programs, click on the Step 2 button to submit your solution. Limit of one solution entry, per person, per day. Notify your facebook friends, or tweet your friends, to encourage them to visit the site and vote for your solution.

 4. SOLUTION SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Submissions must be 250 words or less.
Solution content must be original. All sources, or quotes, must be referenced.
Solutions must make reference to a minimum of two programs at Simon Fraser University.
Solutions must be submitted via the web as instructed after registration for the Contest.

5. WINNER SELECTION
$2000 Simon Fraser University Tuition Award:
The $2000 SFU tuition award will be determined by the Simon Fraser University election committee. To be eligible for this prize, winners must complete the University admission process and subsequently register in classes at Simon Fraser University.
Laptop:
The laptop will be awarded to the individual with the most votes as of contest closing date.
T-Shirts:
Designer t-shirts will be awarded when a submission reaches 50 votes. Limited quantities available.

6. VOTING POLICY
Voters must register at www.sfu.ca/solutions using a valid email address. Entrants will be allowed to vote for as many different solutions as they wish, however they are only permitted to vote for each individual solution once.

8. PRIZE REDEMPTION (HOW TO GET YOUR PRIZE)
Simon Fraser University will notify the winner as deemed appropriate by first class mail, email, and/or telephone on or around May 15, 2010 from information provided on the entry form. Simon Fraser University is not responsible for lost, stolen, late, or misdirected mail. If unable to make contact with the winner within ten (10) days after Simon Fraser University first attempts to notify the winner, or if the winner fails to claim the prize in accordance with these Official Rules, the prize will be awarded to an alternate winner. The winner must claim the prize by contacting the designated representative of Simon Fraser University and signing and returning the Authorization and Release form provided by Simon Fraser University, no later than 30 days from the date of notification. This may require picture identification.

9. ACCEPTANCE OF PRIZES
Prizes must be accepted as awarded and cannot be transferred, substituted or redeemed for cash. The $2000 SFU tuition award will be determined by the Simon Fraser University selection committee. To be eligible for this prize, winners must complete the University admission process and subsequently register in classes at Simon Fraser University.
 
10. PRIZE AFFIDAVIT, ELIGIBILITY RELEASE FORM
Winners may be required to complete and sign a Prize Affidavit and an Eligibility Release form in order to obtain their prize and relationship to the Promotion Group if any.
 
11. PUBLICITY AND USE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
By participating in the Contest, entrants, guardians of minors, if winners, consent to the use of their names, cities of residence, and photographs for publicity purposes in all media carried out by Simon Fraser University without payment or compensation or liability for use of same.

Terms and Conditions

PARTICIPATION CONSTITUTES ACCEPTANCE OF RULES AND DECISIONS, CONSENT TO USE AND RELEASE OF CLAIMS. By entering this contest, each participant warrants that he or she has read and agrees to abide by all contest rules and that he or she is not prohibited from participating in the contest. Participation in this contest constitutes participant’s full and unconditional acceptance of these Official Rules and the decisions of Simon Fraser University, its parents, affiliates, employees and agents, which are final, binding and non-negotiable in all respect. Each participant agrees to release, discharge, indemnify and hold harmless Simon Fraser University, affiliates, shareholders, employees, officers, directors, agents, representatives, advertising and promotion agencies and prize suppliers from any liability arising from or related to the contest, including without limitation: (a) unauthorized human intervention in the contest; (b) technical errors related to computers, servers, providers, or telephone or network lines; (c) printing errors; (d) lost, late, postage-due, misdirected, or undeliverable mail; (d) personal injury, death, and property damage; and (e) claims based on publicity rights, defamation, or invasion of privacy. Further, participants fully and unconditionally release all claims for consideration, copyright infringement and all other claims of any nature relating to the use of their entry, name or likeness.

ELIGIBILITY: The Contest is open to all individuals pursuing post-secondary education in Canada. Void where prohibited or restricted by law. Employees, contingent staff persons, officers and directors, together with members of their immediate families (parents, children, siblings and spouses of each) and/or those living in the same households, of Sponsor or Host, and their respective parents, subsidiaries and affiliates are ineligible to participate in the Contest or win any Contest prize.

Your participation in the Contest, including your submission shall be deemed to be your complete acceptance of the terms and conditions set out below by Simon Fraser University

1. All entries must be received by Simon Fraser University

2. There is no cost or purchase required to enter this Contest.

3. Entry to the Contest is only open to individuals pursuing post-secondary education in Canada

4. Employees and relatives of employees of Simon Fraser University and any entities affiliated or related to Simon Fraser University are not eligible to enter the Contest. For this purpose, the term "relative" shall mean spouse, partner, parent, child or sibling.

5. By submitting your solution to Simon Fraser University in relation to the Contest you agree to and thereby waive any and all moral rights that exist in your contribution to the Contest and any derivate works made there from.

6. By submitting your solution to Simon Fraser University in relation to the Contest you represent, warrant and undertake to the Organizer that your contribution (i) is your own original work and that you have the sole right to submit it to the Contest (ii) does not violate in any way rights of third parties including copyright and other intellectual property rights and (iii) does not violate any applicable laws.

7.In the event that you breach any of your representations, warranties or undertakings contained herein Simon Fraser University shall be entitled to and may seek indemnification from you for recovery of all legal fees, damages, claims and other expenses that may be incurred as a result of your aforementioned breach.

8. Your contribution to the Contest should not include any content whatsoever which would reasonably be understood to be defamatory, threatening, distasteful, racist, unlawful or otherwise objectionable.

9. Simon Fraser University reserves the right to alter or modify your contribution to the Contest without notification or consent from you.

10. Simon Fraser University reserves the right to change these terms and conditions at any time and at its sole discretion.

11. Entrants agree to grant to Simon Fraser University an everlasting, royalty-free, assignable, exclusive license to use, utilize, replicate, alter, adapt, modify, publish, broadcast, translate, produce derivative works from, distribute, present, play, sublicense and exercise all copyright and other intellectual property rights with respect to your contribution worldwide and/or to include your contribution in other works in any media now known or later created forever. Each entrant agrees and grants Simon Fraser University permission to make available and display/perform and otherwise distribute entrant's name and solution in all media in perpetuity without compensation. Except where legally prohibited, submission of an entry into this Contest constitutes permission for Simon Fraser University to use the entrant's name, address (city and province/state) and testimonials, in printed, broadcast media or new media, in perpetuity, in any manner they deem appropriate in connection with promoting the this Contest, without further compensation in connection with this Contest or the prize awarded.

12. Each entrant agrees to indemnify Simon Fraser University from any third party claims arising from or related to that entrant's participation in the Contest. By participating, entrants agree that Simon Fraser University involved in the development, production, implementation and distribution of this promotion and their respective parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, service providers, and agencies, and their directors, officers, agents, employees, attorneys, and any other person or entity associated with such entities and/or promotion shall not be liable for any and all claims, damages, losses or injuries, including any third party claims, arising from or relating to, in whole or in part, this Contest, including entry and participation in this Contest and acceptance, possession, use or misuse of the prizes. All entrants further agree that in the event of any third party claims, damages, losses or injuries, arising from or relating to this Contest, they will indemnify Simon Fraser University from any and all such claims, including the attorneys' fees related thereto. S.F.U. shall not be responsible for any technical malfunctions of the telephone network, computer on- line system, computer equipment, software, program malfunctions or other failures, delayed computer transactions or network connections that are human, mechanical or technical in nature, or any combination thereof, including any injury.

13. Entrants participating in this Contest are liable for any copyright infringements caused by their submission.

14. Simon Fraser University assumes no responsibility for lost or late entries or for incomplete computer transmissions or technical failures.

15. Simon Fraser University reserves the right not to accept entries that are considered inappropriate for the Contest.

IDENTIFICATION OF POTENTIAL WINNER. Simon Fraser University will notify the winner as deemed appropriate by first class mail, email, and/or telephone on or around May 15, 2010 at the information provided on the entry form. Simon Fraser University is not responsible for lost, stolen, late, or misdirected mail. If unable to make contact with the winner within ten (10) days after SFU’s first attempt to notify the winner, or if the winner fails to claim the prize in accordance with these Official Rules, will award the prize to the alternate winner. The winner must claim the prize by contacting the designated representative of Simon Fraser University and signing and returning the Authorization and Release form provided by Simon Fraser University, no later than 30 days from the date of notificaiton.
